Selkie Educational Foundation is a Dutch organisation at the intersection of education, culture, and play. We design and coordinate European projects that use games, live-action role play, and other creative methods to foster participation, cultural exchange, and resilience. Our work bridges youth work, non-formal education, and the cultural sector, making learning imaginative, inclusive, and impactful.
We believe play is a powerful way to learn, connect, and grow.
Our work includes:
Designing board games, card games, and role-play experiences that build critical thinking, empathy, and problem-solving through hands-on play.
Helping young people develop future-ready skills through non-formal education and participatory learning experiences.
Delivering engaging trainings that equip youth workers and educators with innovative methods + practical tools for meaningful learning.
Partnering across Europe to co-create resources, share best practices, and foster intercultural understanding.
An Erasmus+ project turning climate education into play. We design open-source games that help learners build green competences through creativity, collaboration, and systems thinking. Recognized by the European Commission as one of the most inspiring green education initiatives, Climate for All offers practical tools for youth workers, educators, and communities to spark climate action through play.
An urban imagination game where participants embody ancient gods roaming modern European cities in search of forgotten rituals, heritage, and meaning. Designed for 10–30 players, played over 2 – 7 hours. Co-created with Nausika (PL) and Erea (SI), the project features a rich tapestry of mythological storytelling, cultural engagement, and artistic design—played in six countries to date.
All game materials are openly accessible in multiple languages under a Creative Commons license.
An Erasmus+ project using EduLARP to explore conflict resolution in playful, immersive ways. Through roleplay and reflection, young people and educators practice empathy, dialogue, and creative problem-solving. The project will produce a modular workbook for youth workers, with ready-to-use scenarios, guides, and tools to turn tension into opportunities for growth and connection.
